The 23 Bus – Kinross and Tillicoultry

The 23 Bus – Kinross and Tillicoultry

Proposed start date 2nd September 2024

Following years of public transport withdrawal, in April 2023, Glenfarg Community Transport Group took over the The 55 Bus service between Glenfarg and Kinross and extended the route to Perth in January 2024. Having experienced similar public transport issues, Fossoway Community Council approached GCTG and asked we could help set up a community led bus service in West Kinross-shire. The result is the new 23 Bus Service – a nod to the bus service which ran through the area for nine decades before its withdrawal in 2021.

The 23 service commenced in September 2024 and was extended to the Sterling Mills Retail Park in July 2025. Initially, the service carried just over 300 passengers per week and now regularly achieves 600 per week. The service runs on to Perth from Kinross as the 55 bus service. The first bus departs Kinross for Tillicoultry at 0715 and the last bus is 1720. The last bus from Tillicoultry is 1805.

23 Bus FAQ’s

A This is not strictly necessary; you can request the driver to take you there. However, if you are also coming back from that request stop, booking is advisable.

A If using the Ride Pingo App, it needs at least thirty minutes but one hour is recommended. If using phone booking and travelling on the first trip of the day you need to book the day before and if travelling on a Saturday, please book on Friday as the Contact Centre is closed at weekends.

A Birkfield Park, Caulder’s Garden Centre, Sainsbury’s Supermarket, Lochleven Community Campus and Health Centre

A Yes, we take most credit cards and Scottish Under 22 and Over 60 concession cards.

The cheapest way to travel is to buy a 10-trip ticket from only £10. No limit on how long it has to be used by and riders can share the ticket. This means that you can travel between Glenfarg and Perth or Kinross for £1 per journey, and between Kinross and Perth for just £2 per journey.

A Our drivers are a very special breed! We say that our service is not about buses, it is about people. Every passenger we carry has a story to tell about why they use the bus, and our drivers are very sensitive to the needs of our travelling public – they go the extra mile (often literally) to make sure that our wee bus service delivers much more than public transport. Of course, they need to be able to drive well, take fares, run to a schedule. But our drivers are invested in the service and share the responsibility of running it. As our name suggests, we are based in Glenfarg.
If this describes you, please get in touch at transport@glenfarg.org – we keep a list of potential driving ambassadors! We have big plans for the future and maybe you could be part of it…

A We now have four wheelchair accessible buses, and all 55 services are accessible. We have a number of regular wheelchair users and we recommend booking. You can book a wheelchair space on the Ride Pingo App or by contacting the booking line 0845 605 5955 (or 0141 778 2042 to avoid premium rates).
We cannot carry mobility scooters unless they are very compact. Contact us before travelling transort@glenfarg.org

A Your pram/buggy is welcome on board but we give priority to wheelchair users and you may be asked to fold the pram/buggy and store it (not the baby) in the luggage space if a wheelchair user needs the space. If you are travelling with a pram that does not easily collapse you will need a booking. You can book the wheelchair space on the Ride Pingo App or by contacting the booking line 0845 605 5955 (or 0141 778 2042 to avoid premium rates).
